The Chicago Tribune covered a joint concert by the 'Soons and 'Whiffs in 1990 at the Gold Star Sardine Bar. Sent in by Chuck Goldberg '71, the amusing article alludes to the ever-present tension between old and new, traditional and modern. The performance happened months after the debut of the legendary "Princeton is Free" by MacGilvray, and months before serenading Queen Noor and King Hussein of Jordan.
"[T]he Princeton Nassoons-an undergraduate ensemble that has been around since 1941...proved to be a livelier, looser and decidedly less inhibited group than their Yale counterparts." Cheers to that.
Though noted as not quite as "polished in vocal technique" as the Whiffs, when comparing the various numbers mentioned from the performance, the score is clear on who left a bigger mark on the author and audience: Whiffs: 1, 'Soons: 5.
